  • 1 cup fresh squeezed lemon or fruit juice Can use orange, watermelon, strawberry, or any preferred fruit juice.
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Substitutes can include honey, agave, or stevia.
  • a pinch salt Enhances flavor.
  • zest of one lemon or other fruit Optional for added flavor.
  • a drop food coloring Optional for color.

Equipment

  • 1 Ninja Creami machine Essential for the recipe.
  • 1 Ninja Creami pint container The one that fits the machine.
  • Freezer space Ensure the pint sits flat.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Combine fresh squeezed juice, water, granulated sugar, and salt in a bowl and mix well.
  • If using, add the zest and food coloring.
  • Pour the mixture into the Ninja Creami pint container.
  • Freeze the container flat in the freezer for at least 24 hours.

Making the Italian Ice

  • After freezing, remove the pint container from the freezer.
  • Place the pint into the Ninja Creami machine and process as per manufacturer's instructions.
  • If the texture is crumbly, add a splash of water or juice and re-spin.

Serving

  • Scoop Italian ice into bowls and top with fresh berries, a drizzle of fruit juice, or whipped cream.
  • Garnish with a mint sprig if desired.

Notes

This recipe can be easily customized with different juices and fruit purees. Always make sure to freeze for at least 24 hours for the best consistency.
